Active Lifestyle Guide

In addition to your weekly TFT workouts, we want you to start living an active lifestyle. On the days you're not working out at TFT, you should be doing something active to aid recovery and keep losing fat.

You have endless options in activities you can do, and here are some to consider:

Walking

Walking is underappreciated and underutilized. It is also one of the most effective activities for fat loss. The major benefits of walking are:

  • Low intensity and suitable for burning fat and preserving muscle without negatively affecting your TFT workouts.

  • Burns calories mostly from fat stores.

  • Reduces stress by lowering cortisol levels, which aids fat loss.

  • Easier to do consistently, which will make a big difference over time.

Use your walking time to do other produtive things too like, talking to a loved one, walking the dog, or listening to podcast or audiobook.

Yoga

Yoga is a great option to support your TFT workouts. 4 major benefits of yoga are:

  • Reduces stress

  • Improves sleep quality

  • Protects you from injury

  • Increases flexibility

To get started with yoga, you can check out a local studio or use one of the many free resources on Youtube.

Hiking

Hiking is a great way to get out of a city environment and enjoy the natural surroundings. Hiking is essentially walking, but most trails give you more of a challenge. You get all the benefits of walking plus the mental benefits of being in nature and unplugging from the world for a little bit.

Biking

Riding a bike is fun and allows you to cover a lot of ground to see and experience more of an area. Biking will:

  • Increase your cardiovascular fitness

  • Strengthen your legs

  • Burn calories

  • Improve your balance

If you have a bike, get out there and ride it!

Recreational Sports

Recreational sports keep you active and socially connected. Getting into recreational sports is as easy as joining an adult league or organizing a meet-up with friends. Some sports you can play are:

  • Basketball

  • Soccer

  • Tennis

  • Pickleball

  • Golf

Just about every sport will keep you moving and living an active lifestyle.

Active Lifestyle Goals

Whatever you choose to do to stay active, you want to do it for at least 30 minutes on the days you are not working out at TFT.

If this is new to you, start with at least 10 minutes of activity for week 1 of the program. Add 10 minutes every week until you are doing 30 minutes.

If you’re busy, chop up your activity time throughout the day. For example, you can walk for 10 minutes in the morning and afternoon then do a 10-minute yoga session on Youtube at night.

Get out there and keep moving. Try new things; you may fall in love with an activity and not even think of it as exercise.
